Dear HKBU Foundation Members, Colleagues, Students and Alumni,

Thanks to your staunch and unstinting support, the University has successfully raised a total of HK$142 million in donations and secured HK$81 million in matching funds from the University Grants Committee, by the close of the Fifth Matching Grant Scheme in March 2011. In terms of the total sum we have received, amounting to HK$223 million, the University ranks fourth (please click here) among the twelve participating tertiary institutions, achieving an impressive growth of 24% from the last round of the Scheme.

For this round of the Scheme, the competition was keener due to the increasing number of participating institutions competing for the same amount of matching funds. Without the substantial support and contributions from members of the public, funds, philanthropic organisations, colleagues and alumni, it would hardly have been possible for HKBU to secure a total of HK$952.7 million, under the five rounds of the UGC Matching Grant Scheme, comprising HK$596 million in donations and HK$356.7 million in matching funds. The University fully recognises the importance of your contributions in achieving this remarkable record.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our donors for the generous support they have given to us, and my heartfelt thanks also go to all our staff colleagues and our alumni for their hard work. Every kind of your support helped not only maximizing the impact of the additional funds in sustaining all University’s developments, but also serving as a timely and significant gift to HKBU in celebration of our joyful 55th anniversary this year.

If you have any fundraising initiatives, proposals or useful information that you wish to share with us, please feel free to contact Professor Frank Fu, Associate Vice-President, at 3411-7002; email: frankfu@hkbu.edu.hk, or Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement, at 3411-7878; email: lilychan@hkbu.edu.hk.

With your ardent support, the future of HKBU will be even brighter. Let us all work together to ensure the success and advancement of the University.

Yours sincerely,
Professor Albert S.C. Chan
President and Vice-Chancellor
