Q1. Can GE be counted towards a Minor?

NO. GE courses cannot be taken to fulfill major, minor and double major requirements.

Q2. Can I take GE courses as Electives?

YES. You can take a maximum of 6 additional units of GE courses in any categories as Electives.

Q3. Can I take courses other than those in the GE Programme to fulfill my GE requirements?

NO. You can only take GE courses listed here to fulfill your GE requirements.

Q4. Will I be exempted from taking University English or University Chinese if I got a merit in HKDSE examination/IELTS/TOFEL?

NO. All students have to complete the 38 units of GE. There are no exemptions in any categories.

Q5. When should I take GE courses?

You are encouraged to finish your CORE requirements by the end of the 2nd year of study, and complete the Distribution Requirements before you graduate.

Q5. I am admitted to HKBU from an Associate Degree (AD) Programme. Do I have to take all 38 units of GE?

It depends on which AD Programme you are from. The GE Programmes of the following AD Programmes have already been recognized by HKBU. Upon completion of these programmes, you would be able to transfer your GE credits to HKBU and your GE requirement will be as follows:

Programmes/Institutions GE Requirement at HKBU
College of International Education,
School of Continuing Education, HKBU
None. All your GE credits can be transferred.

 

Please check with the GE Office or the Academic Registry if your programme is not listed above.
