Quality Assurance
The General Education (GE) programme at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) is a purpose built, high quality, multi and inter-disciplinary offering that seeks to deliver the best in general education to our students.
All of our GE courses are designed with an outcomes-based teaching and learning (OBTL) approach. Each endorsed GE course has gone through a rigorous “GE Course Endorsement Protocol” wherein discipline experts in Quality Assurance Sub-groups or External Reviewers would review and endorse each and every GE course proposal received during each respective round of call for GE Course Proposals.
Further to the rigorous GE Course review and endorsement process, all the endorsed GE courses has also gone through a Streamlined Accreditation in May 2011 wherein an external panel of experts was invited to review and accredit our entire GE Programme and the GE courses therein.
GE Pilot Study Project
This is a multi-semester study expected to span across 4 semesters (2 academic years), starting in the 2010-2011 academic year, and ending in the 2011-2012 academic year. The aims of this project are to evaluate students’ learning experience of the piloted General Education (GE) courses and to assess the degree to which students have improved their learning strategies and competency skills due to their engagement in these GE courses. In particular, this project will:
-
evaluate students’ learning experience of the GE courses using a tool to gauge their learning experience in the courses, via a Learning Experience Inventory – Course (LEI-C) and focus group interviews;
-
assess the degree to which students have improved their learning strategies and transferable skills after taking the GE courses using the Study Process Questionnaire (SPQ).
The outcome of this study will be used to reflect and review the endorsed GE courses such that good quality of the GE Programme can be maintained and perpetuated.
